Academy Brass Quintet Windsor – A Welcome Return

Chamber Music Windsor is delighted to welcome the Academy Brass Quintet (ABQ) back to Windsor following its holiday concert appearance in December 2025.

The ensemble brings together five experienced musicians from the greater Toledo, Ohio, area, combining technical excellence with a shared enthusiasm for performing chamber music.

A brass quintet offers something distinctive: the powerful sound of brass instruments in an intimate ensemble setting, where every instrument plays an essential musical role.

From brilliant trumpet fanfares to lyrical French horn melodies, expressive trombone passages, and the deep resonance of the tuba, the Academy Brass Quintet brings an extraordinary variety of sound and musical character to the stage.

This December performance continues Chamber Music Windsor’s commitment to presenting accomplished musicians and engaging live concerts to audiences throughout Windsor and Essex County.

About the Academy Brass Quintet

Founded in June 1994, the Academy Brass Quintet is a professional brass chamber ensemble based in the greater Toledo area.

For more than three decades, the group has entertained audiences through concerts, community events, and special performances throughout Northwest Ohio.

Its performance history includes appearances at:

• Toledo Museum of Art

• Maumee Bay State Park

• Metroparks Toledo

• Concert halls and community venues throughout the region

The quintet has also been featured on WGTE FM 91.3’s Thursday Evening Concert Series.

One of the ensemble’s defining characteristics is its musical versatility.

Its repertoire includes music from the Baroque and Classical periods, 20th-century compositions, jazz, pop, and big band arrangements.

This wide-ranging musical background allows the quintet to create performances filled with contrast, energy, and expressive musical variety.

Together, these five instrumental voices demonstrate the remarkable musical possibilities of a brass quintet.

What Makes a Brass Quintet Concert So Special?

Brass chamber music creates an exciting listening experience by combining five powerful instruments in a small ensemble.

Unlike a large orchestra, where many musicians may perform the same musical line, a brass quintet allows each instrumental voice to be heard clearly.

The two trumpets provide brilliance and melodic clarity, while the French horn adds warmth and expressive colour.

The trombone brings flexibility, depth, and character, and the tuba creates the rich foundation that supports the entire ensemble.

The result is a remarkable combination of musical textures, ranging from delicate, lyrical passages to energetic rhythms and magnificent brass harmonies.

A live brass concert also offers the opportunity to appreciate the musicians’ close interaction and musical communication.

For first-time listeners, the variety and richness of the sound can be a particularly rewarding discovery.

A Special December Concert in Windsor

The Academy Brass Quintet’s return on December 12, 2026, provides another opportunity to enjoy professional live music during the December concert season.
